What is IPLC?

IPLC stands for International Private Leased Circuit. It is a dedicated, point-to-point private line that connects two locations in different countries, with the full capacity reserved for you end to end.

Because the circuit is not shared and never crosses the public internet, an IPLC gives consistent latency, strong security and predictable performance. Organisations use IPLCs to link offices and data centres, carry voice and video, replicate data between countries and, for carriers and ISPs, build international backbone capacity.

How an IPLC works

An IPLC joins your two sites with one continuous, dedicated circuit. Local access links each site to a carrier point of presence, and reserved international capacity carries the traffic between countries over subsea and terrestrial cable systems. The circuit is handed off to you as SDH or Ethernet, and nothing else shares its bandwidth.

Site AYour office, data centre or PoP
Local accessTail circuit to the carrier network
International capacityReserved end to end over subsea and terrestrial cables
Local accessTail circuit in the far-end country
Site BYour remote site or partner

IPLC bandwidth and handoff

We deliver IPLCs from 64 Kbps to 10 Gbps, with SDH and Ethernet over SDH (EoSDH) services. The capacity and interfaces available depend on the route, and we confirm them for each pair of locations when quoting.

Full-circuit vs half-circuit IPLC

OptionHow it worksBest for
End-to-end (full circuit)One provider delivers the whole circuit between both locations, under one contract and one SLA.Enterprises that want a single point of contact for the entire link
Half circuitEach end of the circuit is supplied by a carrier in that country, and the two halves meet at an agreed midpoint.Carriers and licensed operators that already hold one end of the route

Protection options

TypeWhat happens if a cable fails
UnprotectedThe circuit runs on a single path. It is the lowest-cost option, suitable where you have another backup link.
ProtectedA standby path is reserved in advance and traffic switches over automatically.
RestorableTraffic is re-routed over alternative capacity after a fault, restoring the service without a dedicated standby path.

IPLC vs NPLC, IEPL and MPLS

ServiceScopeTopologyTypical use

Who uses IPLCs

  • Carriers, LDIs and ISPs building international backbone and upstream capacity (connectivity for ISPs and carriers).
  • Banks and financial institutions replicating data between data centres and DR sites (banking & financial services).
  • Energy companies linking operations centres and international offices (oil, gas & energy).
  • Multinationals and international call centres connecting offices in different countries with guaranteed capacity.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the full form of IPLC?
IPLC stands for International Private Leased Circuit. It is a dedicated, point-to-point private line between two locations in different countries.
What is an IPLC in telecom?
In telecom, an IPLC is a leased international circuit with capacity reserved for one customer end to end. It is protocol-agnostic, so it can carry data, voice and video with consistent latency and without crossing the public internet.
What is the difference between IPLC and NPLC?
An IPLC connects sites in two different countries. An NPLC (national or domestic private leased circuit) is the same kind of dedicated point-to-point line, but between sites in the same country.
What bandwidth can an IPLC provide?
Delta Communications delivers IPLCs from 64 Kbps to 10 Gbps, with SDH and Ethernet over SDH services. Available capacity depends on the route, and we confirm it when quoting.
What is a half-circuit IPLC?
In a half-circuit IPLC, each end of the circuit is supplied by a carrier in that country and the two halves meet at an agreed midpoint. In an end-to-end (full-circuit) IPLC, one provider delivers the whole circuit under one contract and SLA.
When should I use an IPLC instead of internet-based connectivity?
Choose an IPLC when you need guaranteed capacity, security and consistent low latency between fixed international sites, for example linking data centres, trading systems or head offices where best-effort internet is not enough.
Is an IPLC secure?
Yes. Because an IPLC is a dedicated private circuit rather than a shared public path, your traffic is isolated end to end, providing strong security and predictable performance.
Which cable systems are your IPLCs delivered over?
Our IPLC service uses capacity on major subsea systems including SMW-3, SMW-4, SMW-5, IMEWE, AAE-1, TW-1, EIG and TATA's TGN systems, selected per route.
What performance guarantees come with an IPLC?
Our IPLCs are delivered over carrier-grade, top-tier backbones with a 99.9% uptime SLA and 24/7 NOC support. Contact us for route-specific latency and capacity options.
